So how in the hell and why in the hell did you utilize a painting by John Wayne Gacy? And didn't Acid Bath have the same cover art?

Well let me tell you. We were in Chicago recording our first album for an indie label out of Minneapolis called Red Decibel. Unbeknownst to us Red Decibel was working up a "developmental deal" with Columbia records. We were one of the bands assigned to this deal and we now had a full fledged A&R person assigned to us by the name of Benji Gordon. Benji came to visit us in the studio and had some interesting ideas. One had to do with a vibro-slap (the song got cut) and the other had to do with his obsession with pen palling with convicted serial killers and collecting their artwork.

Benji had a large collection of Gacy's paintings. He suggested that we commission Gacy to paint a portrait of the band. I lived in a suburb of Chicago as a kid and was well aware of the man's atrocities and did not want him painting a picture of me. That said, I dug into his back-story more and found the story of his duality fascinating and frightening and I liked the idea of how something can be forward facing and docile but underneath completely twisted and unnerving. I felt that as a band that was playing music that was very heavy and at times unnerving it its own way was the exact opposite. We were scary and frightening on the face but behind the art were very down to earth and basically normal MidWestern kids. It being the 90's and shock value still having some cache, we said okay to using one of his clown paintings for this 7" inch that was made for us to start touring on before the full length would come out nearly a year later.

And yes, Acid Bath, used a different painting of the same subject matter for their album that came out two years later.

lyrics

woman to water and wine at your lips
who's kidding who in this state of blind ambition
(we're going straight to hell)
i feel for my own

(do you know what i believe, do you know what i believe?)

i wish you would not bother me
television lies screaming out my name
(come a little closer when you speak to me)

(do you know what i believe, do you know what i believe?)

my reasons won't stand still
count your blessings all on me
lay down and let me live life
i need a second opinion
i deny your lie

woman to water bite my teeth bite me teeth
open wide open wide
poke my eyes out

i'm a little bit bitter i'm a little bit bitter
i'm a lot of bit BITER

(do you know what i believe, do you know what i believe?)
